Skin Rashes

We can get skin rashes due to heat, allergens, infections, immune disorders, medications etc.

Here are some of the more common types of skin rashes:

  • Atopic dermatitis (eczema): This rash appears as small bumps around the hair follicles on the knees and ankles. It can look like goose bumps. The skin can become thick, itchy, and dry.

  • Contact Dermatitis: It is triggered by physical contact with something we are allergic to, such as a brand of hair dye or lipstick. It is characterized by intense itching and blisters filled with fluid.

  • Shingles: This is a viral rash and can be painful. The rash first appears on the torso and is usually seen only on one side of the body. It is not contagious, but people with shingles can infect others with chicken pox.

  • Fungal infection: Also known as athlete’s foot or ringworm, this itchy, burning, ring-shaped rash is seen in warm, moist areas of the body such as the groin, toes, and underarms. It can be passed on through shoes and towels.

  • Hives: This is a mysterious skin condition that comes and goes. There are several triggers, from certain foods such as peanuts and eggs to extreme cold, medications, and insect bites.
