Leaky Bladder

A leaky bladder, otherwise known as urinary incontinence, is a common problem where the bladder loses its control. This unintentional passing of urine affects millions of people but is more commonly seen in older people, mothers, and women who have gone through menopause.

What are the types of Leaky Bladder?

Leaky bladders are of different types such as stress incontinence (when urine leaks while coughing, laughing or sneezing due to pressure on the bladder), urge incontinence (a sudden urge to urinate, which can be caused by an infection or conditions such as diabetes), and overflow incontinence (frequent leakage of urine because the bladder does not empty completely).

What are the causes of a Leaky Bladder?

Urinary incontinence can be caused by everyday habits, underlying medical conditions such as constipation or urinary tract infection, certain food and drinks such as alcohol, chocolate or caffeine, and medications such as sedatives and muscle relaxants.

Prevention

A leaky bladder can be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight, exercising, avoiding triggers like excessive caffeine or alcohol, and adding more fiber to your diet. A leaky bladder is treatable; if it affects daily activities, it is time to see a doctor.
