Hair Loss
What are the Symptoms?
If you notice that your hair parting is getting wider, or that your hairline is receding or gradually thinning at the top of your head, it could be alopecia. If you find you have loose hair, patchy bald spots, and pain or itching in the scalp, you may be looking at alopecia.
Causes
Alopecia can be because of advancing age, heredity, hormonal changes, or underlying medical conditions. Repeated stress on the hair can also cause hair loss as can a physical or emotional shock. Some women find their hairline recedes during menopause. Chemotherapy treatment can result in temporary loss of hair all over your body. Sudden extreme weight loss, high stress and fever, a chronic illness, and childbirth may also cause hair loss.
Alopecia is a condition when you lose more hair than usual. If you are shedding more than 50 or 100 hairs a day, it may be a sign of hair loss. Consult your doctor if you are distressed by it.
