Anxiety

What is Anxiety

Anxiety is the body's natural response to stress. It is the fear or nervous tension about what will happen next.
Anxiety disorder is not a mental illness but a common mental state.

There are several causes for anxiety, such as Abuse (those who have endured or witnessed physical, sexual, or mental abuse or trauma may develop an anxiety disorder), stress of any kind (even over an illness can trigger anxiety), family history (having blood relatives with an anxiety disorder can put someone at risk for it), and substance abuse (drugs or alcohol may result in anxiety disorders).

Signs that indicate anxiety

Some anxiety symptoms include sweating, trembling, restlessness, pounding heartbeat, hyperventilation, fatigue, trouble concentrating, insomnia, and gastrointestinal problems like diarrhoea or nausea.

When should you seek professional help for Anxiety

Anxiety is treatable and can be managed. But suppose the stress is extreme, debilitating (prevents you from normal functioning), and lasts more than six months. In that case, it may signal an anxiety disorder for which you should seek professional help.

Anxiety disorders are diagnosed and treated in several ways, depending on the severity. The interventions include psychotherapy, medication, and lifestyle changes (meditation, yoga, exercise).
